"My inspiration for this design came from the Beldam?s perspective of Coraline in the movie. The beginning of the movie where we see the creation of the doll is one of my favorite scenes in any animation movie as it really sets the overall creepy and mysterious tone of the antagonist. It has always intrigued me how much detail was put into the Coraline doll and how it was used as both a tool to lure Coraline into the Beldam?s world and as a representation of how the Beldam sees her. Coraline was exactly like a doll to her. She was something to love and puppet around, but once she had her use of her, can be easily discarded. That was what inspired me to create this design."
